Learn more about the life during the World War II during a visit to one of strategic cities and the one of the few SS concentration camps in West Europe. Around an hour and a half from Amsterdam is the city ‘s-Hertogenbosch, beautiful historic city with amazing architecture and wonderful museums. We'll take you for a walking tour of the city's monuments during which you will get to hear about the life during the WWII, the occupation and liberation of the city and the stories of the soldiers who participated in it.
After some free time for lunch, we will visit Camp Vught National Memorial, place of one of the SS concentration camps. The camp was converted into memorial and museum that witness the life of the many Jews who pass through the camp and died in it. The buildings were faithfully reconstructed to simulate the conditions during the war. You will get to see the watchtowers used for surrveillance of the vast area, the barracks where the prisioners lived, gass chambers and the crematorium were many people were killed and later burned. You can also see the Children's Memorial were names of 1,269 Jewish children who were deported in this camp are listed. Part of this complex is also the Execution Area, located in the nearby woods. Today there stands a memorial with the names of 329 prisoners brutally executed at the site.
