Travel by coach from Barcelona to the National Park of Montserrat. Its name meaning "serrated mountain", this peculiar place famous for its unparalleled beauty is sure to take your breath away with its beauty. Join you local guide and uncover the history and secrets of one of the most famous places in Spain.
Montserrat is currently a home to 80 Benedictines living there. Enjoy the sight of Gothic and Renaissance architecture contained in the sanctuary and basilica. You'll have the unique chance to visit the wood carving of the Madonna and the Child (popularly known as the Black Madonna) kept in the church and hear about the legend of their miraculous apparition in the cave of Santa Cova.
What follows next is a three hours long pause for shopping, having a traditional lunch or taking a hike and visiting some of the other small churches around. You can also spend your time visiting the museum (if option selected), seeing the audio visual exhibiton, listening to the oldest Boys’ Choir in Europe (subject to their schedule) or trying some of the locally produced liquors of this region.
Later, at 3 PM join your guide again for an exclusive guided tour of the Sacristy. Finally, upon our return home we'll stop by the first monastery ever built in the mountain - the monastery of Santa Cecilia. Housing some of the best Christian and avant-garde art works by the Irish painter Sean Scully, this monastery offers a spectacular view of the mountain peaks around.
