Why you should go

This wine tour takes you to nearby city Trebinje (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Located less then 40 km from Dubrovnik (25 miles) is a world of its own, completely different than the coastal area of Dubrovnik Riviera. Limestone hills, small fertile pockets of land following the river flows, flocks of sheep and goats grazing and endless fields of vineyards will capture your imagination.

What shall I see

Begin with pickup at 9am, which can be any hotel or apartment in Dubrovnik and surrounding area. Starting with spectacular drive up in the mountains towards city of Trebinje, some 45 min drive, stop in Trebinje to visit local farmers market and to taste some traditional cheeses, honey and more. Next, drive to Tvrdos Monastery, where wines have been made by monks, tasting 4 class wines in Monastery cellars. Monastery Tvrdos is dedicated to the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos and was built upon the stone formations of Tvrdos along the right side of the banks of the Trebisnjica River, four kilometers west of Trebinje.

The monks of the monastery Tvrdos started ten years ago a new chapter in the story of the monastic winemaking in our country. They took care of the grapevine in Trebinjsko polje, where the old plantations of the Vranac are located on 70 hectares of land and even built 60 hectares of young vineyards in Popovo polje. Today the monastery has two cellars. In an old stone cellar from the 15th century, in hundred-year-old oak barrels vranac matures, and only ten meters away, next to the Trebisnjica, a new cellar is dug, equipped with the latest technology, but perfectly integrated into the existing complex. Modern technological solutions include also a gravitational transport of wine during processing, enabled by height differences between different levels of cellars.

After you will visit another famous local wineries, taste 5 different wines, prosciutto and cheese. Our groups are small, minimum 2 and maximum 6 people as we want to have personal touch!

Last stop is traditional tavern where you gonna to enjoy in three course lunch.

My husband and I loved this tour! A MUST DO. Our tour guide Desco grew up in Dubrovnik and was so knowledgeable about the region. A short drive across the border, we heard so many stories about the history and culture of Bosnia that felt natural rather than out of a guide book. After a guided walk though a village and market (wow), we visited the monastery and sampled 3 wines. The local family winery was our favorite where we tasted 5 wines, followed by a memorable lunch by the water. Our guide received an update that the border back to Croatia was backed up, so he took us an alternate route back through the mountains with more stories and culture, an adventure in itself. This tour felt like a personal insiders guide to the region rather than a touristy gimmick and is a MUST if you love wine and culture.

I booked on line. There was some delay in their response to my initial booking request. However, I am very happy we did this tour. I looked at other Bosnia tours from Dubrovnik but didn't want to spend hours and hours in a bus. This half day tour was great, and a great escape from tourist heavy Dubrovnik. Our driver was already waiting at the appointed time. He (Viktor?) was very knowledgeable, friendly and spoke excellent English. The vehicle was very comfortable. The tour included stops at a town market, which was interesting for sure, and a couple of wineries. The monastery winery was a really nice stop. but at each we had more than a sip of a wine or two and a cracker. The tastings were very generous and enjoyable. I very much recommend this tour.

Me and my wife sure loved this tour. All the things we experienced were of top quality. Our driver/guide very were most friendly and the tour turned to a chat more than traditional guiding. The lunch was so good and in a so lovely place. I recommend this tour to everybody. A small minus for the boarder control, but with the other things so nice you could stand it. A most personal tour. //Nils and Lena

Easy on line booking for the Bosnia half day wine tour that was confirmed quickly and all details confirmed by email and we only booked the day before. We were picked up promptly by Marijo, who briefly outlined the delights ahead. We had a fascinating day, learning not only about the wines but also the history & culture of Bosnia & Croatia. Marijo was full of knowledge, polite and friendly. The tour was set at a very relaxing pace that fitted in well with our holiday mood. There was a good variety of different aspects of live in Bosnia. It took in a monastery and it would have been helpful to know the dress code before hand but there was a selection of appropriate clothes available to borrow. Your passport is required for this tour. It is certainly a tour we would highly recommend.
