Recommendations for taking a tour to Mljet National Park from Dubrovnik
The island of Mljet is, considering only the bigger islands of Croatia, the south-most and situated very close to Dubrovnik. Being so close and a fascinating display of natural wonder, several boat tours are offered visiting the island. The west part of the island was proclaimed a Natural Park in 1960 while the rest of the island is a natural reserve. Most of the island is densely forested by Aleppo pine, stone pine and oak trees and it is the home of many animal and plant species. The island is considered the greenest island in Croatia. Throughout history, Mljet was often confused with the more popular island Malta and till this day some historical events are still being debated on which island they occurred. To mention a few, the famous legends of the shipwreck of Odysseus and Paul the Apostle and also the debate is being held weather the famous dog breed the Maltese originated from Mljet or from Malta.

Most of the tours will take you to the small village Pomena, from where you will continue by foot (or an optional van ride which is included in the price of the national park ticket) and visit the Malo and Veliko jezero (literaly translated the small and big lake). On the big lake, you will have the opportunity to take a boat that will take you to visit the small island of St. Mary housing the Benedictine Monastery, which is in our opinion the highlight of this tour (an island on the lake on an island :) ) This boat tour is also included in the price of the ticket of the Mljet national park. Apart from that, some tours might include a visit to the Odisseus cave and Polače, a very picturesque village situated on the northern bank of the island.

Our guests personal experiences on tours to Mljet National Park from Dubrovnik

Tours to Mljet National Park from Dubrovnik

4.5 star rating:Very Good (4.5/5 based on 2 reviews)
Five star

Booked this through the web and, as promised there was a hotel pick up and our guide was very well spoken and knowledgeable. Fantastic day trip, the lakes are clear blue and warm, and very salty.

Four star

Mljet island is very nice and we were able to visit the two salt lakes and of course Ste Maria Island. Colors are worderfuld. The trip was different as announced as we were supposed to go by speed catamaran from Dubrovnic and in reality we use a Bus (1.5 hour) and a small boat during (50 mn). We suppose this is due to the fact that we were only around 30 people but we would have appreciated to be aware before leaving. At the end of the day it was a nice experience as we were able to visit Ston and taste its delicious oysters. Our guide, Braco, was very nice and interesting and all the pickup process was well organised.
