Things to know before before booking a tour to Mostar from Dubrovnik

Things to know before before booking a tour to Mostar from Dubrovnik
Mostar is situated about 3 hours driving from Dubrovnik, about 140 km north and inland. As the trip to Mostar from Dubrovnik enters the country Bosnia and Hercegovina be sure you bring your passport. If you would like a more in depth visit of Mostar, we suggest joining a tour that takes you only to Mostar and all of the time spend on the tour is allocated to exploring Mostar. There are however some tours that include a stop to Međugorje or Kravice nature park, so if you are just interested in a short overview of Mostar and to take some pictures on the old bridge, we recommend taking a tour with more then one stop. Međugorje is a famous Christian pilgrimage site know for the reported Marian apparitions and is situated only about 45 minutes driving from Mostar, and Kravice waterfalls is a wonderful display of nature situated about one hour of driving from Mostar.

It's up to you to decide which particular tour to take but regardless, visiting Mostar is a great way to spend the day. Just to visit the old bridge and hear the story is an amazing journey: its construction in 1567, its complete destruction in 1993 during the war (the act of the destruction of the bridge was actually filmed and you can find the video on youtube), it's reconstruction in 2003, and the yearly tradition of diving competitions on this bridge dating from 1968, still organized to this day. The bridge is also listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Our guests personal experiences on tours to Mostar from Dubrovnik

Tours to Mostar from Dubrovnik

4.5 star rating:Very Good (4.7/5 based on 22 reviews)

Our guide Kruno (apologies - spelling is probably wrong) was great. Despite the early start he was very cheerful and gave us lots of interesting facts and stories about the area we werae staying in as well as the places we passed on the wayt o Mostar. His knowledge was fantastic and his English was flawless so we learned a lot. The day was well structured and, travelling out of season, the border crossings were quiet so we got through them all very quickly and painlessly. It was a long drive but he made sure to break the trip up with rest stops and an additional stop off at the beautiful town of Pocitelj which was a bonus. Our tour group was quite small (only 6) so we were an easy group to please and Kluno was happy for us to take our time at each of the stops and explore as much as we wanted to. The waterfalls at Kravice were stunning and had it been ever so slightly warmer it would have been lovely to take a dip. Mostar was both beautiful and fascinating and was a tark reminder of how recent the war was and what a massive impact it had on the country. Our tour guide was able to really bring the history to life and give us a good sense of what life was like. We were lucky enough to be in Mostar over lunch and got to hear the call to prayer from the local mosques - it really made our trip. We would definitely recommend this trip to anyone staying in Croatia.

We chose this trip as we were staying on Sipan Island and it was the most suitable one for getting the ferry to the port in time for pick up at 7:50. The guide was superb and all the information was fantastic. Mostar was brilliant to see and the local guide was very informative as well. The tour was slightly longer than usual due to high winds shutting the bridge and getting held up at one of the border crossings for a long time which meant we missed the last ferry to get back to the island, meaning we had to spend the night in Dubrovnik. (Not the tour operators fault at all but something to keep in mind if travelling from one of the islands. Despite the problem at the end i would recomend this tour as it was a great chance to see somewhere beautiful i wouldnt have thought to go to and buy some ridiculously cheap food and drinks (we got three bottles of liquer for a total of 5 euros in the market) Experience a different culture and learn a lot of information.

This trip was well organised and on time for all pickups. The route to and from was very scenic with the tour guide giving an excellent talk about the history of each area. Mostar was very cheap for food and of good quality. The usual tourist trinkets were also cheap to buy. As for the waterfall, it would have been a good idea to mention the amount of steps down to the falls and obviously back up again. It was 32 degrees that day and my wife has asthma and dodgy knees. Still would recommend it though.
