Things to know when booking a tour to Ston

Things to know when booking a tour to Ston
Ston is situated about 1 hour driving from Dubrovnik at the very beginning of the Pelješac peninsula. Throughout history, the village was the main protection point for the whole peninsula and in the 15th century a wall was built which connected the north and south banks of the peninsula entrance. The Ston Walls connected the villages Mali Ston on the north and Ston on the south. Over the years the walls suffered damages from several earthquakes, but they were partially reconstructed in 2009 and now they are open to visitors. Being over 5.5 km long (the original walls where 7 km long), they represent one of the longest walls in Europe. The wall also consists of over 40 towers and and 5 fortresses. The Pelješac peninsula was very important for it's salt production and cultivation of seashells and thus a lot of effort was put into it's protection.

Apart from the amazing walls, the tours visiting Ston will also take you to it's famous salt works (salt factories). While staying in Ston, we highly recommend stopping in one of the restaurants and taste fresh oysters, served either grilled or raw with just a dash of lemon juice.

The Pelješac peninsula is also famous for it's wine production and many family wine producers are creating world famous red wines. The most popular sorts produced on Pelješac are Postup, Dingač and Plavac mali, so be sure to try those wines while staying in the region.

Most of the tours going to Korčula are including a stop in Ston and we highly suggest considering this itinerary. On the other hand, you can take a wine tasting tour of the Pelješac peninsula and enjoy the stop to Ston - it depends on your preferences.

Great excursion to Orasac and Ston. Our tour guide, Barbara, was very informative and helpful. Loved the visit to the family home in Orasac and the olive oil presentation was excellent as was the meal and wine. Even bought some goodies to take home. The booking, pick up and return were all easy and on time. I would definitely recommend this excursion and will use the company again.

This tour contained 6 people and as it turned out was one of the most enjoyable tours we took in Croatia. The pick up and delivery were seamless. The guide was delightful, informative and genuinely tried to make the afternoon a pleasant experience for us. The trip itself in a must. The home visit was both informative and enjoyable. The trip to Ston and Mari Ston eminently worthwhile. We ate wonderful home prepared food in the village and the seafood platter at Mari Ston was excellent. Do yourself a favour and enjoy this tour

I booked this trip from the UK before our holiday. I had never used this company and they were one of the least advertised so I was a little apprehensive. Worry over ! As this trip was amazing! We were collected at the time stated by a very polite and knowledgeable driver Drajan and because only a small group were going on the trip we were picked up in a eight seater Mercedes van which was air-conditioned and very very comfortable. We were the first pick up so along the route we had to pick up the other six passengers then once everyone was in the car our little tour began with Drajan giving us lots of information along the way.First stop was for an hour at ston walls which gave you enough time to climb part of the wall and grab a coffee. We then drove down the peninsular where we had to get on the ferry across to Korcula Island. This island is a must visit with a very beautiful old town and lovely bays with crystal blue water plenty of places to eat and drink. We climbed to the top of the belltower in the centre of the old town the views from the top were amazing. The only downside to this trip was that we only had 2 1/2 hours roughly by the time we arrived on the ferry over to Korcula, personally I think 3 to 4 hours minimum would have been better. After leaving Korcula we then went back down the Peninsula to a lovely winery where we had wine tastings and then we could purchase some beautiful wine. All in all we had a fantastic day our driver was fabulous and we were lucky to share the car with some very nice people too.I would highly recommend happy to visit, very good value for money, confirmation was instant and a reminder of trip was emailed the day before.

We booked the evening befote online and had a couple of queries which we were given responses to that evening. The driver turned up promptly at a hotel near us. He was smart and courteous and the mini bus was clean and new. He drove well and carefully although the roads were sometimes high and bendy. We picked up two other couples from hotels in Dubrovnik who turned out to be charming and interesting. We stopped off for photos along the way and for coffee and a brief stop in the fascinating village of Ston. A little longer spent here would have been even better. An hour later having driven along the peninsula and seen stunning views on either side, we joined and crossed with the ferry to Korcula. Our female guide there told us briefly and in uncertain English about Marco Polo and where to go. We wandered up and down the old town, had lunch at LD Terrace, one of the restaurants on the edge of the old town, overlooking the peninsula. We then descended the steps below where I swam off the rocks in the crystal blue water. We set off back mid afternoon and stopped to taste and buy wine at the Matusko Winery. The wine was better than expected and the winery was quite extensive and photogenic. We were delivered back to our accommodation at half six, feeling we had accrued some great photos and made some wonderful memories. Thank you Kris and everyone at the team.
