With this tour, you have an opportunity to try great wines made on estates with a long tradition in the famous Tagus Valley. Instead of waiting in lines at Setúbal to sample some wines, our journey takes you north to the Ribatejo region. It is a place where tradition still thrives as there are many families still making the finest wines old fashioned way at their estates. The estate of Quinta da Lagoalva that we will visit holds the very essence of the region. Here you can experience the real atmosphere of a traditional Portuguese winery as it dates all the way back to the 12th century.
Before actual wine tasting, we suggest you take an enchanting carriage ride around the grounds of this historic estate. Afterward, its time for lunch which is set to be on Almeirim where you will get a chance to try sopa da pedra or stone soup, a traditional Portuguese dish. Once everyone is full we will go off to visit Avieira do Escaroupim where you can see how fishermen used to live and their stilt huts. If there is still time left at this point, another spot can be included to the list- the Falcoaria Real (Royal Falcon Training Center). The center is the only remaining part of the old royal complex of Salvaterra de Magos.
Last but not least, before you say goodbye, another wine tasting is set to take place either at the Quinta do Casal Branco or Casa Cadaval winery. The tour finishes off with a drive along the Tagus River and amazing views.
