Escape the hustle and bustle of Prague for a combined tour of the fortress town of Terezin, and a round of golf in the resort town of Kotlina. Drive through the beautiful countryside of Central Bohemia en route to Terezín. See the fortress built during the reign of Josef II as a defense against the invasions of the Prussian armies. A 2nd fortress, called Josefov, was built near Náchod. Covering 398 hectares, the fortress was built by 14,000 workers and features walls that are more than 3,770 meters long. They were guarded as one of the most essential parts of the defense systems; the floodgates that could be used to flood the castle moats and valleys around the fortress.
Next, go to the small fortress of Terezín, and learn how it served as a prison in the 19th century and as a Gestapo jail after 1939, when more than 32,000 men and women passed through its gates.
