Historical and Gastro Treasures in Split

I’ve asked myself so often while travelling; “What makes a great, no exceptional, guide?” I don’t believe there is a clear-cut answer. However, a review of Vicencija and her tour makes it easy to label her exceptional. Vicencija enabled us to feel at ease immediately. Her greeting of us at the easy to locate meeting-point was friendly and reassuring. Vicencija is experienced and insightful, as a result we never felt we were being rushed from one location to the next. Her knowledge of her city, it’s people, history and culture was obvious and her enthusiasm for it infectious. Vicencija’s passion for Split, it's people, history and culture is truly captivating, compelling and absorbing. So much so that at the end of our tour we felt our own passion for this exceptional city, its history, food, drink and culture. Vicencija ended her tour with lunch at the outstanding Makarun. Here we ate sumptuous local fare, including homemade macaroni of exceptional quality, served by a patient and brilliant waiter. The meal, and with it this wonderful tour (including genuinely enjoyable conversation with Vicencija), ended with what my wife described as the “best coffee (latte) I’ve ever had!” This tour is highly recommended.

Despite the heat and the obvious overcrowding at the Lakes we had really enjoyable day. Vuk was an excellent and patient guide who managed the pick-ups well and gave very clear and detailed instructions. He also managed guiding us through the best of the Lakes brilliantly, with patience and calmness despite the number of other visitors at the park. The only real issue we had was that the venue for the break on our way to the park was patently unprepared to manage even our small numbers, especially when another group arrived.
