Game of Thrones Split Filming Locations Tour Guide

Split was lucky enough to be used as one of the filming locations for the world famous HBO TV show Game of Thrones and while visiting Split you have the opportunity to relive moments from the show on the exact spots where the actors stood while filming this amazing show. The best way to enjoy these locations is by joining a tour where the guides prepared all the screenshots from the show and explain you the details around the scenes for a more immersive experience. As the filming required a lot of extras to represent the general population of the fantasy world, don't be surprised if your guide also participated in the filming process! Apart from the tours, Split also built a Game of Thrones museum that bought a lot of props from the show and displayed them for you to enjoy but the museum visit is usually not included in the tour since it's best enjoyed when visiting alone.

Diocletians palace and basements

1. Diocletian’s palace & basements

The most prominent filming location is in Diocletian's palace basements where Daenerys kept her dragons. Other parts of the Diocletian’s palace historical alleys were also used for scenes of Meereen slave revenge and the corridor where the Sons of the Harpy waited for the Unsullied. The locations in the historical city center are included in all Game of Thrones tours starting form Split.

Klis fortress

2. Klis fortress

The Klis fortress was used to depict the city of Meereen with the most notable scene when Danaerys executed slave owners. Located about 15 km from Split, this ancient stronghold is an amazing sight was used to protect the nearby region through it's long history. Most Game of Thrones tours by bus also visit the Klis fortress and it also provide an amazing panoramic view of Split and it's surroundings.


Kastel Gomilica

3. Kaštel Gomilica

Situated also about 15 km from Split, the small town of Kaštel Gomilica was used to depict the city of Bravos with lots of scenes of Arya in search of the many-faced God. The town perfectly depicted the city of Bravos with waterways, canals and lagoons.

Zrnovnica

4. Žrnovnica

This small town within 10 km from Split, was used for the bathing scene of Missandei and Gray Worm in the beautiful watermill. Other smaller scenes of the Unsullied were also filmed here.

We had our tour with guide Luca and driver Dino (if we rememer the names correctly). Wonderful tour, great guide explaining everything from history and the filmings of Game of Thrones. We had a great time, especially appreciated where the guide had pictures from the series showing where it was filmed on the spot in Klis and in Split city. Meeting spot was easy as Luca was holding a sign.
