Short Guide on Taking a Tour to Mostar from Split

Short Guide on Taking a Tour to Mostar from Split
Mostar is an extraordinary city situated about 2 hours driving from Split, in the country Bosna and Hercegovina. When taking a tour to Mostar, the first thing to keep in mind is to take your travel documents as you will have to cross the border from Croatia to Bosna and Hercegovina.

Mostar is the best representation of the multiculturalism that Bosna and Hercegovina is experiencing. The city is inhabited by both Christians and Muslims, and they are visibly divided by the river flowing through the city. It's very clear which part of the city is which just by looking at the many churches on one side and mosques on the other. The city was heavily struck by war in which the iconic bridge of the city got completely destroyed. The destruction in 1993 was filmed and the video is available on YouTube. The bridge was rebuilt in 2003. The rebuilding also returned the famous bridge diving competition which has a long tradition in Mostar.

Most tours to Mostar also visit the city Međugorje which is situated only about 30 minutes driving from Mostar. Međugorje is a famous Christian sacred place know for the Marian apparitions in 1981.

Mostar is full of history and definitely worth a visit if you want something different than what you will experience in Croatia. Since there is a 2 hour drive to Mostar (and 2 hours back), and the tours include a visit to Međugorje, all tours are full day tours lasting about 12 hours - but 12 hours you will not regret. Enjoy!

Five star

We booked online which was easy, then paid at the office in Trogir where the staff were very helpful. The bus was on time, clean & comfortable and the driver- Mickey & guide- Josepina (unsure of spelling) were great- friendly, helpful, informative. Would recommend.

Excellent tour with superb tour guide. I was concerned that it was going to be a very long day, but it went very quickly and we fitted a lot in. The coach was well airconditioned and had free wifi (which was just about usable). We had the right amount of time in each place. The only problem we encountered was the arrangements for pick up and drop off in Trogir. Most people started at Split, however we were staying in Trogir. We waited at the Grayline office in Trogir and a minibus arrived and the driver signalled for us (and 3 other families) to get in. We pulled up at a coach park in Split and the driver pointed out where the office in Split was and told us to walk there. We all walked there and waited. After a while I spoke to a staff member and showed them my ticket and she was horrified that we were at the office. Apparently the coach for Mostar was sitting in the coach park waiting for us and we should have got on it. The minibus driver had sent us to the office along with the Six Islands tour people rather than telling us to wait at the coach park and get on the bus. It was quite embarrassing getting on the coach as we had kept everyone else waiting and they assumed it was our fault for being late. There also didn't seem to be a plan for getting us back to Trogir at the end of the tour. The guide helped with this and arranged for the coach driver to take us to a busy junction where a minibus met us to take us back. This resulted in us getting back later than planned. To sum up, an excellent tour, and arrangements are fine if you are staying in Split, but not so good for Trogir.

Highly recommend! Our tour guide (whose name I have sadly forgotten) was excellent, always a smile on his face and lots of stories to tell. Perfect amount of time at each location. Loved this tour and our tour guide too!
