The best way to experience Split is by taking a guided walking tour

The best way to experience Split is by taking a guided walking tour
Split has about 300.000 inhabitants but the main historical center is actually quite small so the best way to learn about the city is by taking a walking tour in the center. At first, when the roman emperor Diocletian came to this place more than 1700 years ago, he decided to build his palace, which now we call the Diocletian’s palace. This is the historical center, and one of the most fascinating things about it is that this is a living museum as people are still living in this palace and you can walk freely through its narrow streets. If you walk by yourself you could actually miss all the details of the palace as it perfectly blends in the lively atmosphere especially during the summer season when the city is crawling with tourists. Be sure to hire a guide in Split, for one thing you will learn about the very old and rich history of Split and for the other part, it’s a good idea to have a local to ask about the most important places to see while you are visiting Split. Have a great time in Split!

Our guests personal experiences on Split Walking Tours

Split Walking Tours

(4.9/5 based on 70 reviews)
Five star

We found the website easy to find and booked our walking tour of Split straight away as it was a simple process and the prices were fine. The meeting point is very central in Split and relatively easy to find. After finding a quiet spot Maja gave us a brief history of the city and then we had a lovely 2 hour tour around the city - all very interesting and well presented

Jacov was a great and informative tour guide. His knowledge of the area’s history was great and he had an enjoyable sense of humor. I would definitely recommend this tour!

We had our tour with guide Luca and driver Dino (if we rememer the names correctly). Wonderful tour, great guide explaining everything from history and the filmings of Game of Thrones. We had a great time, especially appreciated where the guide had pictures from the series showing where it was filmed on the spot in Klis and in Split city. Meeting spot was easy as Luca was holding a sign.

This was an easy tour to book online and their offices under the red umbrella are easy to find as well. We had a tour with Marco who was born in Split and played their as a child so knew the city and the history well - he was great! This tour is ideal for a hot day as it's not too long but you get to hear about all the main highlights. Also it's with a small group so it's easy to walk around and ask questions The only feedback I would give is that the tour description mentions seeing the basement - you do go to the basement but not to the bit which has been restored (you need to pay separately to go into this and takes longer than the tour had but we booked for this reason) I would highly recommend though - we learned a lot about this wonderful city
