This tour will teach you all about Armenian culture and historical presence in Venice that started in 12th Century. Old town of Venice is full of Armenian historical buildings, churches, palaces, campielli, calli. Main center of the Armenian culture is an island that was called "the Armenians" in 1717, now its name is island of San Lazzaro. There you will be welcomed by a Mechitarist Father, who will take you to a visit to the Monastery. In the museum of this island, you can see about 140,000 ancient and modern volumes, about 5,000 precious manuscripts in a lot of languages, an Egyptian mummy of 2,700 years ago, amazing paintings etc. After the visit of San Lazzaro island, we will reach the Venetian Baroque Church - Santa Croce degli Armeni, when we come back to Venice. Santa Croce degli Armeni is known for "the Illuminator", San Gregorio Armeno who converted the Armenians to Christianity in 301 AD. Last place we will visit is Pallazo Ca' Zenobio in Dorsoduro district, known for its beautiful garden full of reddish-brown bushes, cypresses, rows of robinias, scented pittosporum etc.
