Visit the Salzkammergut Alpine Lakes Region from Vienna

Visit the Salzkammergut Alpine Lakes Region from Vienna

The Salzkammergut region is situated about 3 hours driving from Vienna, and while it is a long ride, the scenery that you will see there makes it definitely worthwhile. A lot of glacier lakes are scattered around the region and the surrounding mountains give the area a unique identity.

When deciding to take a day tour to Salzkammergut, alongside the visits of the lakes, you have the option to visit Hallstatt, a beautiful small village with a very long and interesting history situated on the banks of lake Hallstattersee or visit Salzburg, the city with one of the best preserved baroque architecture and the birthplace of Mozart. While both places are remarkable it their own way, it's really up to you which one to choose. Maybe reading our short guides on tours to Salzburg and tours to Hallstatt will help you make a decision. Also note that some of the tours spend some time to visit one of many amazing lookout points of the region - while other tours spend the time doing other activities such as taking a boat ride across the crystal clear lakes. What we can recommend is to read the tour descriptions so that you know you chose the right tour for you.

Would definitely recommend this trip. It’s a long trip from 8am to 9pm but worth the time. The library in Admont Abbey is so amazing! And Hallstatt is a beautiful town despite the foggy and rainy weather. Overall I enjoyed the trip and would like to thank our tour guide Elene who is nice and helpful!

The day trip to Admont and Hallstatt through Happytovisit company was a great experience with hypnotic views. The library in Admont was the most impressive library we’ve every seen and there’s a reason hallstatt is considered one of the most beautiful places in Austria and even in the world. The guide was very nice and patient and told us much about the history of each site we visited, as well as during the ride. The trip was well organized, and the minibus was comfortable to travel in. The one thing that bothered us was that the tour was in two languages. Highly recommended day trip.

The trip was very well organized. First we stopped at Admont and visited the biblical library there which was amazing! It had just started to snow so we were lucky to have the awesome weather. Then, we went to Hallstatt and it is by far, the best thing I have ever seen and then it snowed heavily while we were there which made it more amazing! The tour guide was well informed, and this trip is a must as this will be one of the best things you'll ever see! will definitely go back to Hallstatt given the chance
