Zadar Region is known for good food and excellent wines. Its hinterland is a place where people cherish their traditions for centuries. Except the beautiful landscapes and rich cultural inheritance, it abounds with fertile soil that has been the life source of the area during the past. On their fields people cultivate fruits, especially maraska cherries, vegetables, olives and vine.
Almost every household of Zadar hinterland has a custom of making their own wine. Over past decade, traditional recaptures have been replaced with professional wine production. Many people continued the tradition of their ancestors but begun to produce the wine according to international standards.
Visit the vineyards of Zadar hinterlands. Small, picturesque village of Nadin lies eastern from Zadar. It is famous for its eco gardens due to which it was proclaimed an eco- friendly village. Follow the path of ancient Romans who conquered the area more than 3000 years ago. They brought the first vine and cultivated it. Special sort of grapes characteristic for the area is Maraština. It is sweeter than other sorts because of later maturation that improves the deposition of sugar in berries. During the past, dry wines from Maraština have been drunk only in the most festive occasions. With its beautiful yellow color and unique bouquet Maraština exquisitely complements with white fish, hard cheeses or sea food. Except this special sort, you can taste other wines such as: Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah and the awarded Couvee Tomislav.
