The Wachau Danube Valley

The Wachau Valley​ is a popular touristic destination in Austria known for lots of historical and architecturally important monasteries, castles and other buildings, for the modern architecture of the several villages situated in the valley, and also for producing amazing wine as one of the more important products of the region. The valley is situated between the cities of Krems and Melk and it's about 50 km in length. Among the most important sights to visit are the Melk Abbey in Melk and Göttweig Abbey located in Krems, both founded in the 11th century.

The cultural importance of the Wachau valley was also recognized by UNESCO which placed it on its World Heritage Sites list in the year 2000.
