What shall I see

Hike the best known mountain in Croatia called Velebit and enjoy the view from astounding 1000 metres above sea level. Velebit was also proclaimed UNESCO’s World Network of Biosphere Reserves. Enjoy the magnificent panoramic view from the top including jade green Zrmanja river flowing through the wilderness. Zrmanja also creates a 200 metre deep canyon that you can also admire. Enjoy the sight of limestone cliffs called Tulove grede (Tulo’s Rafters) emerging from a gigantic mountain peak. Drive by Majstorska cesta, a macadam road that took eleven years to be built starting in 1832. It’s a 41 kilometres long road that was used to connect Dalmatia and continental Croatia.

Zrmanja Canyon
We will stop at the plateau above the canyon with outstanding view. Zrmanja river flows through wild and rocky landscape and creates magnificent canyon.

Ride towards Velebit mountain
We will drive by "Majstorska cesta" macadam road toward Velebit mountain. This is the first road that connected continental Croatia and Dalmatia region built in 1832, it took 11 years to built it and it is 41 km long.

Foothills of Velebit mountain peak
Within arrival to the most attractive mountain peak - "Tulove grede" or Tulo's rafters starts 1,5 hour long climb to the top of the peak (with pauses). They are white limestone cliffs looking like crown rising from the body of a massive peak.

At the top of Velebit mountain
At the top, you will have 30-40 minutes long pause to rest and enjoy in breathtaking panorama view of Zadar hinterland and archipelago from more than 1000 meters high. After that follows downhill hike to the bottom of the peak and return to Zadar.
