Situated only about 1 hour of driving from Athens, the ancient city of Corinth offers an amazing opportunity to spend the day vising one of the richest ancient city in Europe.

Some evidence indicates that the history of Corith started more then 6500 BC, however it is believed that the population started to grow significantly around 900 BC. The city became one of the richest during the rule of Cypselus around 7th century BC. The city founded several new settlement and had good trade which made it prosper. The city had a very difficult period after that as it was mostly destroyed by earthquakes in 365 AD and 375 AD. Then it was invaded by the Byzantine empire in 395. Then another big earthquake in 856 which is estimated to have killed about 45.000 people.

Some of the most important attractions in Corinth are the Apollo Temple, the ruins of the huge "Agora" (marketplace), the archaeological museum in Corinth and of course the Corinth canal which was bulit in 1893.
