Bulgarian Wines Degustation from Sofia
Wine production was a part of Bulgaria from the Tracians, dating more then 8000 years ago. In the 1980s Bulgaria was one of the biggest producer of wine in Europe but this industry declined after the fall of communism. In recent years the industry saw a big increase in production and Bulgarian wines are becoming more and more popular on the global scale.
Most of their wine varieties are the internationally known Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with just those 2 varieties taking more then 30% of all the wines produced. However lots of local wine varieties are being reintroduced in the production such as Marvud, Melnik 55, Rubin and Kadarka which are fantastic red wines to try while staying in Bulgaria. As these local wines are not produced in large quantities, chances are that your only opportunity to try them is while staying in Bulgaria. So if you are wine lover and enthusiast, we highly recommend joining one of the available wine tasting tours and enjoy some great local produced wines.

I went on a tour with the very knowledgeable DENI who clearly knew how to articulate the sensitive part of history that Bulgaria faced under Ottoman rule.
Her diplomacy was refreshing in contrast to the other tours I went on (and i went on alot). I was thoroughly impressed by her knowledge of Ottoman rule as a historian myself it was a relief to hear common sense and a respect to rational interpretation. This is an accolade to her company for looking for good employees like Deni. I had such an enjoyable tour with Deni one that was memorable to this day. Thank you and good luck on the other tours! Hope to see you in London soon
