The trip to Salzkammergut begins with a trip from Vienna to Gmunden, home of the beautiful Gmundner ceramics. Here, your first highlight expects us Idyllic Orth castle, situated on a small island in the Traunsee lake. Our short stop provides a superb chance to take pictures of the gorgeous castle and the mountain ranges which surround it.
We travel ahead to Hallstatt, a historical town that's been photographed a million times, and even replicated. Nestled between the lake and the mountainside, the city will charm you with its narrow lanes and unique architectural buildings. On a town walk, you will learn about the 7000 - year history of Hallstatt, the powerful salt caves which were the basis of the area's prosperity, and the tragedies it's seen. Among the highlights of our Hallstatt excursion is, without doubt, the ossuary, where hand - painted skulls remember a virtually forgotten tradition.
Boat tour and Skywalk A short boat tour will provide you a amazing view of Hallstatt in the lake, and you have some free time for lunch or some more sightseeing. We meet again in the Salzbergbahn, the funicular that will take us up into the "Skywalk" viewing platform, from where we have a stunning view of Hallstatt and the lake from above.
