Day Trips from Vienna to Hallstatt

The village Hallstatt is situated in the Salzkammergut region on the Hallstatter lake. It's one of the popular villages of the region and it's also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site from 1997.

The village is situated about 3 hours driving from Vienna so it's quite a long ride to visit in one day, but still well worth the trip. Situated on the foothills of the mountain Dachstein and on the banks of the lake Hallstatter, it's one the most photographed towns in Austria. Among the most important attractions are the salt mine, which was the main industry of the village for the duration of it's 7000 years long history, the Skywalk platform - an outlook point of the surrounding nature and the Ossuary (bone house) - a testament to an almost forgotten tradition of decorating the sculls of the deceased performed by gravediggers. But is not only about the sights, the whole village radiates a peaceful atmosphere, from the central square, the unique architectural style, the lake, and the surrounding mountains all merge together to form a one of a kind experience.

Tours to Hallstatt from Vienna tend to visit other places in the Salzkammergut region so be sure to read the tour descriptions before deciding which tour to take!

Would definitely recommend this trip. It’s a long trip from 8am to 9pm but worth the time. The library in Admont Abbey is so amazing! And Hallstatt is a beautiful town despite the foggy and rainy weather. Overall I enjoyed the trip and would like to thank our tour guide Elene who is nice and helpful!

The day trip to Admont and Hallstatt through Happytovisit company was a great experience with hypnotic views. The library in Admont was the most impressive library we’ve every seen and there’s a reason hallstatt is considered one of the most beautiful places in Austria and even in the world. The guide was very nice and patient and told us much about the history of each site we visited, as well as during the ride. The trip was well organized, and the minibus was comfortable to travel in. The one thing that bothered us was that the tour was in two languages. Highly recommended day trip.

The trip was very well organized. First we stopped at Admont and visited the biblical library there which was amazing! It had just started to snow so we were lucky to have the awesome weather. Then, we went to Hallstatt and it is by far, the best thing I have ever seen and then it snowed heavily while we were there which made it more amazing! The tour guide was well informed, and this trip is a must as this will be one of the best things you'll ever see! will definitely go back to Hallstatt given the chance
