What shall I see

On this magnificent tour of Sofia you will see its best parts during a two hour walking tour. A sightseeing tour of the city will reveal the past and contemporary life in the city. These are all places we will explore.

  • Sofia University - the oldest higher education institution in Bulgaria, founded on 1 October, 1888. National Assembly and Square
  • St. Alexander Nevski Cathedral - a Bulgarian Orthodox cathedral in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.
  • Russian Church of St. Nicholas - It was built as the official church of the Russian Embassy, which was located next door, and of the Russian community in Sofia, and was named, as was the tradition for diplomatic churches, for the patron saint of the Emperor who ruled Russia at the time, Nicholas II of Russia.
  • Saint Sophia Church - the second oldest church in the Bulgarian capital Sofia, dating to the 6th century. The church was built on the site of several earlier churches and places of worship dating back to the days when it was the necropolis of the Roman town of Serdica. In the 2nd century, it was the location of a Roman theatre.
  • Monument of the Unknown Soldier - The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Eternal Flame Monument is situated beside St. Sophia Church, facing the flea market. They are memorials to Bulgarian soldiers who have died in the service of their country. Created in 1981.
  • The Former Royal Palace (now Ethnographic Museum and National Art Gallery) - Built in 1873, it was the residence of the ruling governor during the Ottoman occupation, with administrative offices and police headquarters on the lower floors.
  • National Theater - The Ivan Vazov National Theatre is Bulgaria's national theatre, as well as the oldest and most authoritative theatre in the country and one of the important landmarks of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.
  • The Presidency and St. George Rotunda Church - an Early Christian red brick rotunda that is considered the oldest building in Sofia. It is situated behind the Sheraton Hotel, amid remains of the ancient town of Serdica.
  • Ruins of the Roman city of Serdica - The remains of the ancient fortress Serdica are presented in the underpass between the Presidency and the Council of Ministers in Sofia City. The eastern gate of the fortress had been renovated and exposed within the period 1997 - 1999.
  • National Museum of History in Sofia - Treasures from Zlatinitsa, Sinemorets, Kralevo and Yakimovo (from the 4th to the 1st century BC), from Kapitan Andreevo (the 3rd century BC), gold and silver finds from the archaeological excavations of the National Museum of History in the Value of the Kings as well as exquisite silver vessels from the fund of the National Museum of History (from the 4th to the 3rd century BC) and all kinds of Thracian protective and offensive armaments from the 4th to the 2nd century BC, and more (by car/bus)
  • Boyana Church - one of UNESCO’s monuments in Bulgaria - A small temple at the outskirts of Sofia with frescoes dating back to three separate periods: 11th, 13th and 19th century. The most important and fascinating are the frescoes dating from 1259. They are Renaissance frescoes that predate the Italian Renaissance (triggered by the works of Giotto) and break the strict Christian canon law to present pure human emotions, royal figures and folklore elements. (by car/bus)
