Juan was an excellent host and treated us to a marvelous half day overview of La Paz. Valley of the Moon was unique and all of the center city sites were great. We even rode the cable cars arouns the city.

The Valley of the Moon is worth the value by itself, but it is an even bigger plus getting to try salteñas, taking in some stunning views of the city, and completing a three-line teleferrico circuit before walking through the markets. I would totally recommend as your introduction to the city!

As seasoned travelers know, La Paz is a city of contrasts—at once bustling and traditional, historic and modern, dramatic and lively. This private tour packs those contrasts into a few hours, making it a wonderful way to get your bearings and start digging into Bolivia’s spirited capital.

The Charm of Colonial Landmarks

Your journey begins with the city’s most remarkable historic sites. The San Francisco Church, founded in 1548, is a striking example of Baroque-Mestizo architecture. We loved the way its intricate façade combines Spanish colonial details with local craftsmanship. It’s a powerful reminder of La Paz’s layered history.

Next, your guide will take you to the Metropolitan Cathedral, built in 1835, an impressive structure that dominates Plaza Murillo. Standing in this central square, you’ll see the Presidential Palace and the Bolivian Congress, offering a sense of the city’s political heart. Walking down Jaén Street, you’ll find Spanish colonial buildings that have been carefully preserved. Many reviews mention how walking through Jaén Street feels like stepping back in time, with its charming, well-maintained facades and lively atmosphere.

Cultural & Artistic Highlights

The tour might include visits to several of La Paz’s best museums, such as the National Museum of Art and the Textile Museum, which showcase Bolivia’s artistic traditions. The Museum of Musical Instruments offers a fascinating glimpse into local musical heritage—some travelers have found it particularly engaging, especially if they’re music lovers.

Market Life & Local Color at the Witches Market

No visit to La Paz is complete without a stop at the Witches Market (Mercado de Las Brujas). Here, stalls brim with herbs, traditional remedies, and exotic herbs. The vibrant atmosphere is a feast for the senses—from the smell of dried herbs to the sight of silver jewelry and embroidered textiles. Several reviewers comment on how authentic and lively this market feels, giving you a real taste of Andean life.

The Gondola ride provided great views of the city, however we were not told that we were only taking it one way and failed to take many interesting photos. Moon Valley was interesting and worth a visit. Few tourists that day. City tour/Witches' Market was informative. A great afternoon tour!

Natural Wonder: Moon Valley

After exploring the city, the tour heads out about 6 miles (10 km) to Valle de la Luna, or Moon Valley. This surreal landscape is formed by erosion, creating jagged pinnacles and deep canyons that look like they belong on the surface of the moon. It’s easy to see why many travelers say it’s worth the trip just for the photo opportunities. The views from various vantage points allow for great shots of La Paz’s skyline spiked against this lunar backdrop.

Some reviews mention how this landscape provides a stark contrast to the city’s urban environment, offering a quiet, almost otherworldly experience. It’s a perfect spot for nature lovers and those wanting a dramatic photo backdrop.

The Practical Side: Transport & Customization

Your private guide will handle all transportation, making the day smooth and hassle-free. You’ll be picked up and dropped off at your hotel, saving you the headache of navigating unfamiliar streets or public transit. Authenticity & Value: What Travelers Say

One traveler appreciated the guide’s musical talents, while others loved the opportunity to see Moon Valley up close. Several reviewers mentioned that this tour helped them better understand La Paz’s layout and history, making subsequent explorations easier and more meaningful.
